Where to Keep Your Pet First Aid Kit
Dear Pet Mom,
You’ve taken the time to put together a pet first aid kit - that’s great! Now comes an equally important question: where should you keep it? In an emergency, every second counts, so location matters just as much as what’s inside.
1. Keep It Where You Spend the Most Time
The best spot for your kit is somewhere you pass through often and can access quickly. This could be your kitchen, living room, or entryway. Avoid high shelves that require you to grab a step stool. You want it at arm’s reach.
2. Store It Away From Pets and Children
While your kit is there to help your pet, some of its contents can be harmful if chewed or swallowed. Choose a cabinet or drawer with a latch, or a sturdy container with a secure lid.
3. Have a Second Kit for Travel
If you travel with your pet, consider keeping a smaller kit in your car or travel bag. This way, you’re prepared on walks, road trips, or vet visits. Even a few essentials can make a big difference in urgent situations away from home.
4. Keep It in the Same Spot
Once you choose a location, don’t move it around. In an emergency, you don’t want to waste precious minutes wondering where it went. If multiple people care for your pet, make sure everyone knows where the kit is kept.
Extra Tip: Know What’s Inside Your Kit
Knowing the location is just step one; you also need to know how to use the items inside.
